Two prison vans, one of them carrying a self-admitted cop-killer to Britain's Preston Crown Court, crashed Friday, leaving four officers and a prisoner writhing in pain.
One of the vans was carrying Dale Cregan, who has pleaded guilty to four murders -- including of two policewomen. But he was not believed to have been injured in the accident, Daily Mail reported.
It is understood that one van crashed into the back of the other on the motorway Friday morning.
"The collision involved two prison vans on the way to Preston Crown Court as part of a high profile trial... Four prison officers suffered minor injuries and have been taken to hospital for treatment. One prisoner was injured," said a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police.
Enquiries were being conducted by the Lancashire Police to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
