Ailing Congress leader Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi's younger brother, Satyaranjan, joined the Trinamool Congress here Friday.
Satyaranjan, accompanied by some other Congress leaders from various northern West Bengal districts, switched over to the Trinamool, which hoped his entry will strengthen the party.
Observes feel Satyaranjan has been roped into the Trinamool to weaken Congress leader and minister Deepa Dasmunsi, wife of Priya Ranjan.
Deepa, Lok Sabha member from Raiganj in North Dinajpur district, is a bete noire of state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Welcoming Satyaranjan, Trinamool general secretary Mukul Roy said, "We will put his political experience to best use."
He, however, denied it was an effort to divide the Dasmunsi family.
"He (Satyaranjan) is convinced that Trinamool will provide the right platform for serving the people," said Roy.
