The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association has for the second time written a letter to the vice chancellor urging him to provide effective leadership free of bureaucratization to the institute and fulfill their earlier stated demands.
The JNU Teachers' Association (JNUTA) Oct 12 wrote a letter and threatened action if the vice chancellor failed to fulfil their charter of demands within 21 days.
With the demand on issues of promotion and pension, Vice Chancellor S.K. Sopory replied to the teachers' association Oct 15.
"We find that your letter not only does not resolve the issues we have taken up, but points to the main problem that we have raised with you. As such, our demands still stand. We appeal to you to fulfil them within the next seven days," JNUTA president Arun Kumar said Tuesday.
The association said it was time for the vice chancellor "to provide JNU with the leadership that it deserves".
"On matters that the university could have acted under your (VC's) leadership, there has been lack of appropriate action. We believe that this is due to the increasing bureaucratization which leaves little time for policy matters," the association wrote.
It also alleged that there have been cases where the budget of a project has not been approved for months and the project has been delayed or where sanctions have not come for long.
"This is a result of slow decision-making since the top administration is busy with routine matters that could have been resolved at the lower level," the letter added.
