To do away with chaos on roads and open areas due to haphazardly parked vehicles, the Punjab government gave a green signal Tuesday for multi-level robotic car parking system in congested commercial areas of all corporation towns.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, in a meeting Tuesday, reviewed the infrastructure requirements of various local bodies to solve the chronic problem of parking of vehicles.
Taking serious note of vehicles parked illegally around roads and in commercial areas, he issued instructions to the director general of state police (DGP) to tow away wrongly parked vehicles.
Badal asked the local bodies department to set up robotic car parking system in all corporation cities. He said the parking problem was peculiar to the state as Punjab has the unique distinction of maximum vehicle density on the roads.
The local bodies have been asked to identify locations for setting up the multi-level parking.
