India's civil aviation regulator on Wednesday said that aircraft engines manufacturer Pratt & Whitney (PW) has initiated steps to address the issue with its engines that eminated smoke inside aircraft's cabin.

The development comes after a Jaipur-Kolkata IndiGo flight on December 10 had to make an emergency landing at Kolkata due to smoke inside the cabin and cockpit area.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Chief B.S. Bhullar, PW has informed the regulator about its plans to upload a software to fix the glitch which caused over heating of the engine's combustion chamber.

Bhullar during a press interaction said that PW will soon be fixing the new issue with its engines that power the Airbus A320 new engine option (Neo) aircraft that are in service with GoAir and IndiGo.

The global aircraft engines manufacturer is expected to resolve the glitch in GoAir by December 20 and IndiGo by January 5, 2019.

IndiGo in a statement said: "Pratt (PW) has introduced a software upgrade to mitigate the problem. IndiGo's complete fleet will be retrofitted with the software upgrade within 3 weeks."
