A gurdwara in the Canadian state of Alberta was vandalised with phrases like "Leave Canada' painted on it, media reported.

"Today we discovered something very deeply saddening to us," Global News quoted Harman Singh Kandola, chairman of the gurdwara's advisory committee, as saying Friday.

"Some graffiti that was put on the wall of the exterior of our facility."

Two phrases -- "Leave Canada" and "F**k Indians" -- were spray-painted on the temple wall. Gurdwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha in Mill Woods of South Edmonton has been spray-painted in the past as well, Kandola said. He, however, denied this case has anything to do with the shootings in Paris.

Gurdwara members have already started painting over the graffiti.

He said the gurdwara has surveillance video that is likely to show the culprit. Kandola explained that people at the temple feel safe and do not feel threatened. The gurdwara chairman said they would not be contacting police.

He added that the situation is a "teachable moment". People will visit the temple and learn what their faith and culture is all about, he said.

A Cold Lake mosque was vandalized in October 2014, with "Go Home" spray-painted on the side of the building.

The city quickly rallied together to remove the offensive statements, the report said.
