Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi arrived here on Wednesday on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Immediately after landing at Jammu airport, Gandhi flew in a helicopter to the Balakote area of the LoC in Poonch district where six people were killed in Pakistan shelling and firing on August 15.
He would meet members of the bereaved families and get firsthand account of the ground situation along the LoC by interacting with the residents of border villages, said party sources.
Gandhi is scheduled to visit the Kashmir Valley on Thursday. He would also visit the Ladakh region of the state during the visit.
State Congress party chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir and other senior party leaders are accompanying the Congress vice president during his visit to the border areas.
