The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Thursday after an obituary reference to sitting member Khekiho Zhimomi who died on Thursday morning.
In the obituary reference, Chairman M. Hamid Ansari described Zhimomi as an "active social worker who strived for the upliftment of weaker and downtrodden sections of society".
He was member of the Rajya Sabha twice, from July 2008 to April 2010, and from April 2010 till his demise. Zhimomi belonged to the Nagaland People's Front and was the lone Rajya Sabha member from Nagaland.
Zhimomi died at AIIMS here on Thursday morning due to a heart ailment.
"He was admitted to AIIMS three days ago for severe heart issues. His health deteriorated and he died today (Thursday) morning at 6," one of his daughters told IANS.
His family members said his body will be taken to Nagaland after the post-mortem examination.
Zhimomi recently visited Myanmar with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for the signing of peace agreement between several insurgent groups and the Myanmar government.
