Taking suo motu cognisance of Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Paul's "atrocious" rape remarks, the NCW Tuesday said it is writing to the President and the prime minister seeking his expulsion from parliament.
"His atrocious remarks have outraged the whole nation. He has no right to be in parliament. We are writing to the President, prime minister as well as the Lok Sabha speaker seeking Paul's expulsion," National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Mamta Sharma told IANS.
Sharma said the panel will also be writing to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanding Paul's arrest and will seek an action taken report.
The actor-turned-politician who represents Krishnanagar in West Bengal's Nadia district, was caught in a video warning Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) men to "beware" of him as he won't "spare them and destroy their entire clan" and "unleash his boys to rape their women".
"If a CPI-M man dares to touch anybody, I will take out my gun and shoot him. I always carry a gun... I will destroy his entire clan... I warn my opponents... I will make their family pay dearly. I will ask my boys to go there. They will rape them and leave," Paul is seen saying in the video that has now gone viral.
