Respite from sweltering heat in Delhi likely by Thursday

The national capital may finally get some relief from scorching heat as the Met Office Wednesday forecast partly cloudy skies Thursday and thunderstorms in parts of the city.

"The forecast for tomorrow (Thursday) is partly cloudy skies and thunderstorms or dust storms in parts of the city," an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The maximum and minimum temperature are expected to hover around 43 and 30 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the heat wave continued to make life miserable for Delhiites Wednesday as the maximum temperature settled four notches above the season's average at 43.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum was three notches above the average at 31.2 degrees.

Tuesday's maximum temperature settled six notches above the season's average at 45.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled two notches above average at 30.1 degrees Celsius.

While the city may get some relief from the heat, it seems the power and water woes will continue to trouble residents of Delhi for a few more days.

Some residents of Delhi, along with Congress legislator Jai Kishan, Wednesday protested against the ongoing power crisis while Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal accused the Narendra Modi-led central government of shielding discoms.

Following a storm May 30 which damaged transmission lines in Delhi, the city has seen erratic and long power cuts often lasting 10-12 hours a day in the sweltering heat.
