There has been a steady rise in attempts by terrorists from Pakistan to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir since a militant commander was killed in July, Parliament was told on Tuesday.
Minster of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre told the Rajya Sabha: "As per assessment, there has been an increase in infiltration attempts after the killing of Burhan Wani (on July 8 this year)."
The minister said the Indian Army had adopted a "robust" counter-infiltration strategy along the Line of Control (LoC), with an appropriate mix of technology and human resources to check infiltration.
"Innovative troop deployment, pro-active use of surveillance, monitoring devices and the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System have enhanced the ability to detect and intercept terrorists attempting to infiltrate/ exfiltrate," the minister said.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha last week, Bhamre had said that in 2016 there were 167 ceasefire violations along sections of the International Border and LoC with the army until November 14.
In parts of the International Border with the Border Security Force (BSF), the total number of ceasefire violations was 210 until November 1.
Last year, there were 152 ceasefire violations along the LoC and International Border with the army and 253 along the International Border with the BSF.
