Bihars ruling RJD on Tuesday launched a three-day training programme for party leaders and workers, particularly in the use of social media, in preparation for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal led by former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad will train hundreds of its leaders and workers to use social media to connect with more and more people and to counter the propaganda against the party, an RJD leader said.
The training camp is underway at the International Convention Centre in Rajgir in Nalanda district, about 100 km from here.
Lalu Prasad, his sons Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav and Health Minister Tej Pratap and RJD Rajya Sabha MP and Lalu's daughter Misha Bharti, are among the leaders participating in the camp.
While experts will give tips on how to use the social media to send out positive messages about the RJD and its top leaders, Lalu Prasad will talk about how he has used different online platforms to air his views on important political and social issues and to counter his rivals, particularly the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Tejaswi, 26, is tech-savvy and is known to use Twitter and Facebook.
Interestingly, Lalu had earlier scoffed at information technology saying "Yeh IT-YT kya hai?". Now, Lalu boasts of 1.07 million followers on Twitter.
