Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Friday announced allocation of Rs 100 crore towards mitigation of floods here.
He told the assembly that during the monsoon season, residential localities near rivers Adyar, Kosasthalaiyar, Cooum, and Araniyar get flooded, and this a sum will be allocated from this year from the state funds to check the inundation.
He said flood prone areas would be identified and canals will be constructed to the nearby lakes so that the water drains into the lake, while water bodies would be desilted to store more water and closed drains will be repaired.
