Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said that Rs 141.13 crore worth of new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes have been seized by government agencies.
The Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation, Income Tax department and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have seized Rs 141.13 crore of new currency notes, Jaitley said in the Lok Sabha in reply to a question.
He said that all new Indian currency notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 denominations seized by the Enforcement Directorate are deposited in State Bank of India or any nationalised bank so that they can come back in circulation.
"The Income Tax department deposits the cash seized during its search and seizure actions in the public deposit accounts maintained with nationalised banks at the earliest," he added.
All the government agencies including ED, CBI, I-T department and DRI have pan-India presence with requisite officials posted in headquarter, various zonal and regional units to conduct actions against black money hoarders, Jaitley said.
