Rs.2.28 crore for endosulphan-affected areas

The government has sanctioned Rs 2.28 crore for health facilities in areas affected by pesticide endosulphan under the National Rural Health Mission for 2013-14, parliament was told Friday.

"The government has sanctioned Rs.5.6 crore and Rs.2.28 crore for health facilities for endosulphan-affected area under National Rural Health Mission in 2012-13 and 2013-14 respectively, based on the proposal of the state government in their programme implementation plan," Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Studies done by various health institutes in the affected areas in the past have revealed reproductive morbidity and prevalence of cancer in younger people, he said.
