Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday announced a monthly pension of Rs.5,000 for farmers aged 60 or above for their social and financial security.
"The Narendra Modi-led government has decided to give a monthly pension of Rs.5,000 to farmers of 60 years of age and above," Rajnath Singh said while addressing a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally here.
Rajnath Singh said the Narendra Modi government was probably the first government that actually cared for farmers and was keen to help farmers.
"At the age of 60, the capability of people -- particularly of farmers -- to do hard work reduces. Therefore, the government has decided to provide them a pension," he said adding that some positive measures for farmers were likely to be taken.
