Actor Russell Crowe is in talks to join the upcoming action-adventure fantasy film "The Mummy", which stars Tom Cruise in the lead role.
If Crowe becomes part of the project, he will play a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde-type role, reports variety.com.
Universal Pictures signed Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan last summer to help develop a monster universe for them with rebooted versions of its classic monster movies.
Kurtzman is also on board to direct, and will produce the film alongside Morgan and Sean Daniel.
The studio's hope is that Crowe's small role in "The Mummy" would lead to a possible stand-alone film for the character, giving Crowe and the studio a new franchise for its monster universe.
"The Mummy" is set to release in US on June 9, 2017.
