Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, the runner-up for the Democratic presidential nomination, vowed to "campaign vigorously" for party nominee Hillary Clinton.
"I'm going to do a couple of things," the Vermont Senator said in a CBS interview on Sunday.
"Number one, I intend to campaign vigorously to make the case that on issue after issue Clinton is far and away the superior candidate. Number two, to stay focused on the real issues impacting the American people," Politico quoted Sanders as saying.
When asked whether his supporters would vote for Clinton, Sanders ticked off a series of issues popular among progressives, including overturning the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, raising taxes on the wealthy and increasing the minimum wage, Politico reported.
Clinton's positions on those issues, Sanders said, clearly showed that she was the best candidate.
"So I would ask ... my supporters to get away from the personality conflicts that media tries to bring forward and focus on the real issues impacting the American people," Sanders said.
"And when you do that, I think the choice is pretty clear, and that is that Hillary Clinton is far and away the superior candidate," Politico quoted Sanders as saying
In contrast, Sanders slammed the campaign of Republican rival Donald Trump for dividing the nation.
"That is not what our country needs," Sanders said, adding "In these stressful times, we ought to bring our people together, not divide us up, which is what Trump is trying to do."
