A sandstorm killed four people and injured many others here in the Iranian capital Monday, media reports said.

Based on preliminary reports, 27 people were injured as the massive sandstorm engulfed Tehran, Xinhua cited Iran's emergency chief Amin Saberinia as telling ISNA.

"Three people died as an uprooted tree fell on them and another fell down from the rooftop," he said.

The storm, estimated to have a speed of 110 km per hour, hit telephone and power lines in the city.
