President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated Indian tennis player Sania Mirza Saturday for winning the US Open mixed doubles title with Brazilian partner Bruno Soares.
"#PresidentMukherjee congratulates Sania Mirza on winning the US Open Mixed Doubles, says she has done India proud through this achievement," the official Twitter handle of the president said.
Top seeds Sania and Soares defeated American-Mexican pairing of Abigail Spears and Santiago Gonzalez 6-1, 2-6, 11-9 to win the title at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York Friday.
Sania later replied to the tweet, thanking the president
"@RashtrapatiBhvn thank you so much Sir..," tweeted Sania.
The Indian tennis star had also won the 2009 Australian Open and 2012 French Open mixed doubles titles with Mahesh Bhupathi.
