Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed rushed to Srinagar on Sunday to personally monitor the situation arising from incessant rains in the Kashmir Valley.

This is Sayeed's first visit to the valley after he took over as the chief minister of the state on March 1, 2015.

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh informed the assembly here on Sunday that Sayeed is on way to Srinagar to monitor the flood situation arising from incessant rains in the Valley.

Singh informed the assembly that the administration is on full alert in the wake of heavy rain in valley and the situation is being monitored continuously.

People should not panic as all precautionary measures have been put in place, he said.

Giving the update at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Singh said the water level of Jhelum River at Sangam in south Kashmir Anantnag district stood at 12 feet against the alarm level of 18 feet.

The deputy chief minister said the water levels are being relayed to the control room on regular basis and right now there is no need for panic.

He told the assembly the administration is on full alert in the wake of heavy rain in valley.
