Mercury on Sunday plummeted to the season's lowest at a number of places in West Bengal as the state experienced chilly conditions throughout the day.
The western districts of the state experienced cold wave conditions, while an abnormal drop in day temperatures was recorded in some sub-Himalayan districts.
According to the met department, Sriniketan in Birbhum district recorded the day's lowest temperature at 5.8 degrees Celsius in the plains.
In the capital city, people were seen wearing heavy woollen garments to beat the cold with the mercury dropping to 10.6 degrees Celsius, lowest in the last five years.
There is forecast of temperatures ranging below 11 degrees in the next few nights.
Places like Asansol (7.1 degrees Celsius), Bankura (8.4 degrees Celsius) and Burdwan (7.6 degrees Celsius) experienced sub-10 degree temperatures.
