Sensex sheds 66 points; FMCG stocks drop

A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), was trading 66.38 points or 0.24 percent down during afternoon session on Wednesday.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 9.55 points or 0.12 percent down at 8,276.05 points.

The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,395.71 points, was trading at 27,330 points (at 2.19 p.m.), down 66.38 points or 0.24 percent from the previous day's close at 27,396.38 points.

The Sensex has touched a high of 27,438.96 points and a low of 27,176.54 points in the intra-day trade so far.

Good buying was observed in healthcare, banking and IT sectors, while selling pressure was seen in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector.

The BSE S&P healthcare index gained by 0.97 percent, bankex moved up by 0.80 percent and IT index scored 0.57 percent.

However, FMCG index fell by 1.40 percent.
