Sensex up 119 points; capital goods stocks gain

A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), gained around 120 points during the mid-afternoon trade session on Friday.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also made gains during the mid-afternoon session. It was trading 32.80 points or 0.40 percent up at 8,257 points.

The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,233.90 points, was trading at 27,325.27 points (at 1.50 p.m.), up 119.21 points or 0.44 percent from the previous day's close at 27,206.06 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 27,379.57 points and a low of 27,159.76 points in the intra-day trade so far.

During the day's trade so far, healthy buying was observed in capital goods, healthcare, banks, automobile and consumer durables stocks. However, metal, oil and gas and power sectors came under heavy selling pressure.

The S&P BSE capital goods index increased by 130.92 points, followed by healthcrae index was higher by 130.92 points, banking index gained by 129.32 points, automobile index rose by 128.72 points and consumer durables index was up by 120.92 points.

However, metal index was lower by 107.87 points, oil and gas index fell 9.38 points and power index was down 2.38 points.
