Seven fishermen from West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district are missing after two trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal, officials said Monday.
The trawlers "Maharudra" and "Suryanarayan", which were sailing as part of a fleet of 40, capsized Sunday night.
Initials reports had said that all the trawlers were missing. But 38 of these later were traced at Odisha's Dharma port and West Bengal's Petua Ghat in East Midnapore district.
A fisheries department official said all the 14 fishermen on "Maharudra" have been rescued and hospitalised in South 24 Parganas district. But only eight of the 15 on board "Suryanarayan" have been saved.
"Seven fishermen are still missing," the official said.
The fishermen were all residents of Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas.
