At least seven people were killed and 20 others wounded after a car bombing rocked Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital of the southern Afghanistan province of Helmand on Wednesday, police said.

"The blast took place following a meeting in the government media centre. Several officials were among those injured," a police source told Xinhua news agency on condition of anonymity.

The car bombing took place at 10:50 a.m. in an area where several government office buildings are located, the source said, adding that more details would be revealed after investigations.

Those injured were shifted to hospitals in the city and security personnel cordoned off the area shortly after the blast.
