Seven people were killed in a coal mine accident in China, authorities said Thursday.

At least 37 people were working at a coal mine, under construction by China National Coal Group Corp. in Yulin city of China's Shaanxi province, when the accident occurred around 11 a.m. Wednesday, Xinhua reported.

Of the 37 people, 26 were rescued. Bodies of five of the remaining 11 trapped workers were recovered Thursday morning.

Two of the injured died later during treatment. The other injured are undergoing treatment in hospitals.

An initial investigation revealed that the accident took place in a shaft when a cement pipe fell off.
