At least seven militants of banned Islamist outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were indicted on Tuesday in a case filed for killing a Japanese national in Bangladesh.

A court in Rangpur district, 304 kms from Dhaka, framed charges against the JMB militants for killing Hosie Kunio in October last year, Xinhua news agency reported.

Special Judge's Court of Noresh Chandra Sarker in Rangpur also fixed January 4 next year for holding the hearing in the case.

Kunio was gunned down on October 3 last year in Rangpur district by motorcycle-borne assailants days after the killing of an Italian citizen Tavella Ceasar in Dhaka's diplomatic zone.

Five of the accused are now behind bars while one is on the run and another militant was killed in a reported shoot-out with law enforcers.
