A shutdown called against the torching of a flag in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri town, that bore verses of the Holy Islamic scripture written on it, hit normal life in Srinagar on Saturday.

Shops, other businesses and educational institutions remained shut in the city.

Some public and private transport and three wheelers were seen plying on the city roads.

Government offices, banks and post offices, however, functioned normally in the city though with less attendance.

Police said no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere so far.

Local traders have given the shutdown call after some people torched a flag, which they claimed was of terror group IS, on July 18.

Pro-Azadi Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the moderate group of Hurriyat headed by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq have supported the shutdown call.
