At least six people were killed and 30 others injured in tribal clashes in the Algerian province of Adrar, an official said Thursday.
The clashes that had erupted Tuesday night in Bordj Badji Mokhtar locality of Adrar, some 1,400 km southwest of here, left six people dead and 30 injured, including six in critical conditions, Xinhua reported citing Abdelkader El Saradei, secretary general of Adrar province.
On Wednesday, official APS news agency quoted Governor of Adrar Ahmed Abdelhafid Saci as saying that the clashes took place between an Arab tribe and Tuareg residents (Amazigh origins), killing four people and injuring 22 others.
Saci said the clashes started as a fight between a robber and a store owner and later turned into a mass confrontation after intervention of the two men's relatives.
The governor added he held a meeting with the elders of the local tribes in a bid to restore calm to the region.
