The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) in Pakistan has planned to install solar energy panels to keep traffic signals around the city running during long power cuts, a media report said Sunday.

Due to frequent power cuts in Rawalpindi, traffic has become un-manageable in the city, Dawn online reported.

A cantonment board official said that traffic wardens failed to control the traffic manually during the power cuts.

The cantonment board has finalised the installation of solar panel for each signal at the city's Kashmir Road, Bank Road, Benazir Bhutto Road and Punj Sarki.

The installation of the solar panels would cost about Rs.10 million (about $1 million).
