A soldier and a separatist guerrilla were killed on Monday in a gun battle between the guerrillas and security forces in Kashmir, police said.
The soldier, Dharam Ram, of the Rashtriya Rifles, was critically injured in the militant attack in Kulgam district. Later, he died from his injuries at a hospital, a police officer said.
A separatist guerrilla too was killed in the gunfight with security forces which ensued after the militants ambushed a Rashtriya Rifles patrol, the police officer said.
The guerrillas attacked the Rashtriya Rifles patrol in Kanjikulla Kokergund (Yaripora) area of Kulgam district, critically injuring one soldier.
Following the attack, security forces surrounded the area and the gunfight broke out. When the last reports came in, the gunfight was going.
