Two soldiers, home on leave in their village in Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir, were beaten up by local residents after they allegedly killed a fellow villager, police said. Both have been taken into custody.
An agitated mob stopped a vehicle in which two soldiers, identified as Manjit Singh and Deepak Singh, were allegedly fleeing after shooting Vinod Sharma with a shotgun in Shatraiyan village in R.S. Pura sector of the district.
"The vehicle was extensively damaged by the mob and the two were severely beaten. We have taken them into custody and investigations have been started," a senior police officer told IANS here.
Manjit Singh allegedly had some old enmity with Sharma and had roped in Deepak Singh to help him kill him, police said.
