SP's minority appeasement policies bode ill for UP: BJP

Charging the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) of not learning from its past mistakes, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit here Saturday accused it of "communal and vote bank politics" for electoral gains.

State BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that the statement of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav that the government should post one Muslim inspector at every police station in the state smacked of minority appeasement.

Sounding a word of caution that the security forces be kept out of the vote bank politics, Pathak questioned the rationality of the statement given by the SP chief at the Bareilly rally two days back.

"This party is seeing the ill-effects of its biased governing model and still its party chief is stoking the fire with a communally bent mindset" he said.

The BJP spokesman said that the prime reason behind the string of communal riots in the state, including in Muzaffarnagar, was the mindset of the state government with its mind focussed on the Muslims alone.

"Governments must see everyone with the same view, but sadly in Uttar Pradesh, the government is hell bent on vitiating the environment by its appease one, neglect others policies," added Pathak.

Warning of serious ramifications and cascading effect of these policies, Pathak said it was high time that the Akhilesh Yadav government stop its appeasement, specially after a series of judicial interventions by the High Court and the Supreme Court.
