Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Thursday condoled the death of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, who died three days after being found miraculously alive under 35 feet of ice at the Siachen glacier.
"I am pained to learn about the sad and untimely demise of Hanamanthappa. In his death, we have lost one of the bravest soldier of our country, who was always ready to stand vigil at the border in the most horrible terrain," Mahajan said in her condolence message.
"Hanamanthappa truly lived up to the glorious tradition of valour and sacrifice that our soldiers represent. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of his family," she added.
Koppad died on Thursday at the Army Hospital Research and Referral, where he was admitted on Tuesday, following multi-organ failure.
