Special Police Commissioner Sudhir Yadav has been appointed the director general of the Tihar Central Jail. His appointment on Thursday was announced through a communication from the office of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.
Yadav, an AGMUT cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1985 batch, was serving as the special commissioner of police (provision and logistics) in Delhi.
He had earlier served in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and was transferred to Delhi in September 2015.
Yadav's appointment as Tihar Jail DG was necessitated by the resignation of J.K. Sharma, who quit hours after taking charge on April 20.
Sharma had quit, saying his appointment had not been approved by the "competent authority" or the lieutenant governor.
He was appointed Tihar DG by the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi.
