Speeding van runs over minor, driver held

A minor boy who was playing near his house was crushed to death on Friday after a speeding van ran over him in Delhi, police said, adding that the accused was arrested with the help of CCTV footage.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. near Kaushar Masjid in Sangam Vihar and some commuters informed the police that a four-year-old boy was run over by a speeding white van.

"The police took the boy later identified as Ajam Ansari to AIIMS trauma centre where doctors declared him brought dead," Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar said.

"The accident was captured in a CCTV footage installed near the spot that helped police to trace the vehicle from its number," Kumar said, adding that it nabbed driver Sushant Kumar Majumdar from his residence in Nangloi.

Ansari was the only son of Yusaf Khan who stays with his family in L-block of Sangam Vihar.
