State of art Orchidarium to come up in Meghalaya

A state of the art Orchidarium and Orchid Production Unit will be set up here in this mountainous state capital of Meghalaya, an official said on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the Orchidarium and the Orchid Production Unit will have a huge impact on the lives of local entrepreneurs and will be viable and a profitable business.

Sangma laid the foundation stone for Orchidarium and Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling laid the foundation stone for the Orchid Production Unit at the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute of Department of Biotechnology.

He said this initiative of IBSD was in line with the government's Make in Meghalaya mission.

Noting that tourists all over the world have a connection with orchids, the Chief Minister said that it will be a game changer for the tourism sector.
