Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam Thursday announced the government's decision to retain the sugarcane procurement price at last year's levels of Rs.2,650 per tonne.

In a statement issued here, Panneerselvam said the government, taking into account the welfare of the sugarcane farmers, has decided to fix the price for cane at Rs.2,650 per tonne.

He said the rate has been arrived after taking into account the central government's fixed price of Rs.2,200 per tonne and Rs.450 per tonne towards freight and other costs.
