Lauding late litterateur Sunil Gangopadhyay, President Pranab Mukherjee said Saturday the amount of historical research that went into his writing was noteworthy.
Presenting the Sunil Gangopadhyay Memorial Award for Excellence in Bengali literature at the Raj Bhavan here, the president said he has read many of his works and was extremely impressed with his talent.
Mukherjee presented the award for 2012 to eminent poet and literateur Nirendranth Chakravarty. Poet Sankha Ghosh received the award for 2013.
"The Bengal", a cultural organisation instituted the award in 2012 following the demise of its immediate past president, Gangopadhyay.
