Legendary tabla player Shankar Ghosh, under treatment at a private hospital following heart complications, is in a serious condition, family sources said on Monday.
The 80-year-old exponent of the Farrukhabad gharana of Hindustani classical music has undergone an angioplasty at the hospital, were he was admitted two days ago.
He was under constant observation at the ICU.
A recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1999-2000, Ghosh has taken forward the concept of table ensembles - large number of tabla players showcasing their talent together.
He has toured a number of countries to play solo or with celebrated classical musicians like sitarists Pandit Ravi Shankar and ustad Vilayat Khan and violinist Pandit V. G. Jog and earned rave reviews.
