To further scientific advancements in Kerala, the state government will set up a Central-State Institute for Technology Transfer jointly with the central government, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced Friday.

"An amount of Rs.5 crore has been set aside for this purpose, and we are in the process of seeking central assistance," said Chandy while inaugurating the National Technology Day (NTD) celebrations here.

He added that his government, after fully recognising the key role of science and technology for development, has adopted a clear-cut policy aimed at promotion of science.

"Kerala has shown its distinct presence in the IT sector, but there is still a long way to go in harnessing bio-technology, nanotechnology and other sources of energy," he said, adding that they will provide maximum encouragement and support to youngsters who show promise in the fields of science and technology.
