Teenager abducted in Bihar

A 14-year-old boy was abducted by motorcycle-borne persons here on Tuesday, his family claimed.

Patna Police, however, is treating it as a missing case. "It is a case of missing person; police has not filed a case of abduction," said Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj.

Mohd Zeyad, a Class 9 student of Holy Mission School, was allegedly abducted when he was on his way to catch a school bus in the posh Patliputra Colony.

Though his family suspected he has been abducted for ransom, they said they have so far not received any call to this effect.

Zeyad's father Mohd Arid said: "Police should treat it as an abduction case and not merely of missing person to ensure his safe release."

Last month, two cases of abduction were reported in Patna.

A seven-year-old UKG student Saurabh Kumar of a private school was abducted by two motorcycle-borne criminals in Ramkrishna Nagar locality, but police rescued him within a day.

In another case, a 16-year-old boy, son of a property dealer, was kidnapped for ransom but later found murdered. According to the police, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh from the family.

The Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) attacked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over what they called increased kidnapping cases across Bihar.

The party said that after coming to power in November 2005, Nitish had promised to make Bihar a crime-free state within three months, but police records suggest otherwise, the RJD said.
