Teenagers address gender, caste issues through a play

Taking a cue from their own life, 12 teenagers from diverse backgrounds would perform a collaborative production -- a play based on their life's struggle, dreams, hopes and social issues like gender and caste will be staged here, the organisers said.

Titled "Walk", the show is born out of a four-month intensive arts-for-social-change curriculum wherein these teenagers transcend barriers of caste, class, gender, religion, and nationality to come together to teach each other about the social issues that affect them most deeply. Besides, they would also enact the changes they dream of.

"In the initial three months, we just interacted and gathered stories, later we finalised the narrative, which is non-linear," Aditi Rao, one of the facilitators of Tasawwur and organiser of the show, told IANS.

"These shows are based on their personal stories but none of them act their own part," added Rao.

Delhi-based Tasawwur is a collective of artists and educators.

The production is open to public on May 22 and 23 at Studio Safdar in New Ranjeet Nagar at west Delhi.
