The industry has urged the Telangana government to reduce the power holiday to once a week from the present two days a week.

The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) said power holidays of two days a week were causing huge production and financial losses to the industrial units, especially small industrial units.

Seeking respite from the power holidays, the industry group told the electricity authorities that small units cannot afford DG power, and unlike large industries they do not have the open access facility.

Anil Reddy Vennam, senior vice president, said in a statement that the officials said that the power holidays will continue till the first week of November and once the agriculture requirement is met, the power holidays will be reduced to one day a week.

A delegation of industry representatives in Telangana also called on Information Technology Minister K.T. Rama Rao, who assured it that the power holiday will be reduced to one day a week from Nov 3.

Facing acute electricity shortage and to ensure supply to agriculture, the authorities have imposed power cuts on industry and domestic sectors.

In Hyderabad, four-hour power cuts are being enforced daily, while in other towns, it ranges from six to eight hours. The duration of power cuts are even longer in smaller towns and villages.
