Ten Indians progress in World snooker

Ten Indians, including three women, qualified for the knock-out stage of the IBSF 6 Reds World Snooker Championships here Tuesday.

In the men's section, Sourav Kothari and Varun Madan topped their respective groups with unbeaten records while Pankaj Advani with two wins in his four-player group, is assured of a knock-out berth.

Meanwhile, Ketan Chawla, Shivam Arora, Faisal Khan and Laxman Rawat finished second in their groups to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Also within striking distance of the knock-out phase were Dharmender Lilly, Kamal Chawla and Syed Saleem, all of whom have one more match apiece to play, while making their exit were Nadeem Azeez, Rafath Habib and Nadeem Ahmed.

In the women's section, National champion Vidya Pillai along with Chitra Magimairajan and Arantxa Sanchis progressed to the knock-out stage while compatriots Neeta Sanghvi, Umadevi Revanna, Indira Gowda, Neena Praveen and Amee Kamani made their exit.

6 Reds (Individual) - Men: Group A: Laxman Rawat bt Iqbal Alladin (South Africa) 4-0. Group B: Ketan Chawla bt Hashmatullah Nezami (Afghanistan) 4-3; Chawla lost to Rodney Goggins (Ireland) 1-4. Group C: Nadeem Ahmed lost to Karam Fatima (Syria) 0-4. Group E: Rafath Habib lost to Ayman Gad (Egypt) 1-4; Habib bt Baek Minhu 4-1. Group H: Shivam Arora lost to Adem Gerwash (Libya) 2-4; Arora bt Hwang Chulho (Korea) 4-2.

Group I: Sourav Kothari bt Mohammed Alotaibi (Saudi Arabia) 4-1; Kothari bt Mohamed Abdallah (Egypt) 4-0. Group K: Nadeem Azeez lost to Omar Alkojah (Syria) 0-4. Group O: Varun Madan bt Dylan Rees (Ireland) 4-0; Madan bt Sherif Abousenna (Egypt) 4-1. Group Q: Brijesh Damani lost to Nick Jennings (England) 3-4. Group R: Faisal Khan bt Mohamed Elsallak (Libya) 4-0. Group S: Kamal Chawla bt Hatem Yaseen (Egypt) 4-0. Group T: Pankaj Advani bt Maged Shafik (Egypt) 4-0. Group U: Dharmender Lilly bt Ivan Kakovsky (Russia) 4-3. Group AD: Syed Saleem bt Walid Abdel Mohsen (Egypt) 4-0.

Women - Group A: Arantxa Sanchis bt lost to Kathy Howden (Australia) 1-3. Group B: Neeta Sanghvi bt Umadevi Revanna 3-0.A Group C: Chitra Magimairajan bt Indira Gowda 3-0. Group E: Vidya Pillai lost to Amornrat Uamduang (Thailand) 1-3; Amee Kamani bt Makhlouf Soukanya (Morocco) 3-0.

Team Championship (15 Reds):

Men - Group B: India-3 (Sourav Kothari / Shivam Arora) bt Syria 4-1. Group C: India-2 (Kamal Chawla / Dharmender Lilly) bt Russia-2 4-1. Group E: India-5 (Laxman Rawat / Faisal Khan) bt Egypt-6 5-0.
