At least 10 people were killed and 15 others injured Wednesday when an overcrowded bus skidded off the road and plunged into the Beas river, officials said.
The private bus was going to Ani town from Kullu when it fell into the river around 4 p.m. near Nagwai village in Kullu district, some 250 km from the state capital Shimla.
"The casualty figure could be alarmingly high as the bus is lying in the middle of the river and the rescue operation is on," Kullu Deputy Commissioner Sharab Negi told IANS.
Ten bodies have been fished out of the river, which is turbulent in this region before it hits the plains of Punjab. The injured have been rushed to hospitals, he added.
