Terror perpetrators must be brought to book: Israeli envoy

After a court in Pakistan set free Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Israeli Ambassador to India Daniel Carmon on Tuesday emphasised on the need to bring perpetrators of terrorism to book.

"Bringing the perpetrators of terrorism to justice is a very basic ingredient of fighting terrorism," Carmon said while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

"As you all know, one of the main instruments of fighting terrorism with the unity and joint effort of all those who, on one hand are victims of terrorism but also have decided to join hands in confronting it, he said.

Saeed, who heads the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) terror outfit, and who carries a $10 million US bounty for his role in terrorist activities, was let go last month by Pakistani authorities in Lahore after a court refused to extend his house arrest citing lack of evidence. He had been under house arrest since January 30.

Over 160 people were killed and over 300 were injured a when terrorists of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba launched a series of attacks on India's commercial capital in November 2008.

Among those killed were Israeli citizens Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, when the terrorists attacked the Chabad House in Mumbai.

"As I said before, bringing the perpetrators of terrorism is definitely part of fighting terrorism and we are into it together," Carmon said.

"Much of the world has been suffering from terrorism and we should and we will fight it together."
