Thousands of Portuguese fans welcomed their victorious national team on Monday at Lisbon airport after Portugal defeated France 1-0 to win the European football championship.

Dressed in red and green shirts and scarves, the same colours as Portugal's flag, fans flocked to the airport building, reports Efe.

From the airport, the team will head to the Palace of Belem to be greeted by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and receive the title of "Commander", Portugal's most prestigious civil decoration.

After meeting the President, the team will visit the main places in Lisbon by bus to celebrate the Euro title.
