Three people were killed when their car crashed into the road divider on the Yamuna Expressway early on Sunday, police said.
The car was hit by another vehicle, after which it crashed against a divider near the 89th km-mark of the 165-km eight-lane Yamuna Expressway around 3 a.m., said Inspector Narendra Singh of Sureer police station in Mathura district.
Two people in their 20s died on the spot, while another died in the Mathura district hospital. The deceased were identified as Mayank, Ashish and Pavan.
The condition of two injured people, who were also taken to the district hospital, was critical, doctors said.
The five were on their way to Noida from Agra after visiting the Taj Mahal, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Piyush Srivastav.
Since it was formally opened in August 2012, there have been 2,194 accidents on the expressway, resulting in 319 deaths, according to information released by the Yamuna Expressway Authority.
